Mixed Roots is A band that plays exotic grooves mixed with danceable beats.

Under the leadership of the drummer, George, Mixed Roots is a rare breed of bands. All are from different areas, and now call Albany, New York home.

Gideon, the keyboarding specialist, is originally from Nigeria. He’s got rhythms and vibes that are fresh. Their guitarist, Pete, is local to upstate New York and holds them accountable for roots reggae inspiration and implementation. The bass lines you hear are from Jah Red, who is local to the area also. Mostly self taught in reggae, he builds off background studies he found upstate as a youngster. His foundations are solid.

The horn section—featuring (at times) two trombones, Dave and Catherine, and Scott, the sax man—consider themselves local also. They bring fire to the band with their playing.

George, the drummer and vocalist, grew up in Accra, Ghana, where he learned and practiced traditional African beats. He shares his vocabulary of AfroBeat and reggae with Mixed Roots.

Now together, this band plays with energy emerging from their mixed roots. They are prepared and excited to share their styles with you!
